Don’t you just hate it when you’re flying and the person sitting behind you puts their feet up at the back of your seat, on an 8-hour flight?
Flying can present it terrible sides but it isn’t all bad. Sure, some people are just straight up rude and insensitive but you don’t have to be like them to enjoy your flight.
Don’t let your day get ruined by a seat with little to no leg room in a plane, an old lady next to you excusing herself to the bathroom 5 times and counting, or a large person sitting beside you giving you little to no personal space,
Flying can make even the kindest person go mad and unmannered. Hey, always remember the Golden rule and be a decent human on your next flight.
Do not recline your seat
Hey, there’s nothing wrong in reclining your seat a little. It only turns into a crime when you’re being insensitive of other people’s legroom or space. Would you want the person in front of you recline his/her seat further back?
Seriously though, if you don’t want it happening to you, don’t do it to someone else. It doesn’t get any simpler than that.
Use headphones or earpods
Remember that one time you were in a plane and you were seated across a toddler watching a kid’s show with its volume turned up? Annoying to its core, isn’t it?
Don’t be that person who watched TV series or movies in their phones without using earbuds or a headset. No one wants to chime in on the movie you’re watching as you wouldn’t want it, right? In addition, when you do use earbuds, do keep the volume at a reasonable level. The adorable old lady sitting next to you has no interest in listening to your metal rock playlist. Let the old lady rest!
Keep the noise down
We understand that you have a kid and kids cry or you can’t predict or instruct them when to throw tantrums but do try and reason with your kid as other people in the plane have no desire in listening to a crying baby or kid for the rest of the flight.
We need not remind you to make use of a headset or earpods, do we? Just keep your business to yourself and be mindful of others, simple as that.
Respect the flight attendants
Yes, we understand your urge and desire for an alcoholic beverage of your preference but you really can’t demand for the right mix in a plane, can you? First of all, you’re not in a bar and second of all, flight attendants are not waitresses or bartenders. So you might want to hold back your eye roll or temper before you rant on the poor attendant.
Respect everyone
Respect everyone else in the plane. Stop mumbling and grumbling and come to accept the fact that you’re going to meet and experience all types of people on a flight—and you’re not always in control of certain situations.
If you want a better seat, shut the tantrum-throwing kid in the middle aisle and have a larger legroom and personal space, you could opt for a private jet. Not possible? Then suck it up and be cool. You’re not the only inconvenienced by this and this certainly isn’t the end of the world for you.
Hold your grudge
Just keep your cool and try to be the better person in terrible airplane scenarios. Yes you may be seated next to a disgusting man who puts his feet up but that’s not an excuse for you to level with the guy and do the same thing to others. Always bear in mind the Golden rule.
What’s your worst airplane experience and how did you keep your cool? We’d like to know—share it with us!
